
The Workforce Investment Act, which took effect in New York State in 2000, offers businesses grants in upgrading skills of the workforce.
Resources are available through New York State and the federal government.
A few of the grants available are as follows:
· Building Skills in New York State
Within this grant companies may apply for up to $100,000 to assist in training to fill skill gap shortages.
· NY SMART Manufacturing grant
Small manufacturers employing fewer than 100 employees are eligible. Within this grant companies may apply for up to $50,000 to upgrade skills of their employees.
· On-The-Job Training
This grant is available to assist companies with the cost of providing occupational training to workers on the job. This grant is available for workers earning $25 per hour or less.
· Customized Training
Companies may request up to $10,000 per application for training to upgrade the skills of workers earning $25 per hour or less.
